Course details:
The training will be led by Jo Price of Behaviour Bridge Consultancy on behalf of STAND North Wales – Stronger Together for Additional Needs and Disabilities
Aim
To build understanding and confidence among artists in recognising and responding to the diverse communication, sensory, and emotional needs of neurodivergent participants, so creative sessions feel safe, engaging, and accessible for everyone.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will:
Have a clearer understanding of autism and learning disability in the context of creative practice.
Recognise how the environment, communication style, and task structure can either support or hinder participation.
Explore practical strategies to reduce anxiety and increase engagement.
Reflect on their own sensory preferences and how these influence the spaces they create.
Feel more confident adapting sessions in a way that maintains creativity and respect for individuality.
Format
A mix of short teaching sections, examples, discussion, and reflective activities.
The emphasis will be on practical takeaways that artists can immediately apply in their work.
